Risk Assessments
It is a legal requirement under Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations for all companies, no matter how small, to carry out risk assessments on all work activities. For companies of 5 employees or more, these must be documented. The assessment identifies all possible hazards that may cause damage or injury and the most effective way of controlling the risk from those hazards.

We can advise on the necessary risk assessments that need to be undertaken and prioritise the order they should be tackled. We will carry out the risk assessment with the aid of those involved in the activity to ensure full identification of all hazards, identify existing control measures and suggest additional control measures that may be required. Some work activities require mandatory risk assessments e.g. Display Screen Equipment, Fire Safety, Manual Handling, CoSHH, Noise.
Fire Risk Assessment
A Fire Risk Assessment is a mandatory requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and came in to effect from October 2006. All non domestic premises come under this order and require a suitable and sufficient assessment to be carried out by a competent person. The responsibility for ensuring that this assessment is carried out, now lies with the business owner or manager and fire certificates are no longer valid.

We can complete this assessment for you, or you can use our DIY pack to guide you through completing it your self. We can also provide fire safety training.
CoSHH Risk Assessments
COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) – any chemical substance used during work activities, even cleaning products, must have a risk assessment of how it is used, stored, disposed of, dealt with if spilt and first aid measures for those who are affected by the substance.
Display Screen Risk Assessments
Depending on the duration of use, type of work carried out or work routine, people who use a computer during their working day, may require a risk assessment carried out to ensure they have their work station set up correctly for them. Failure to do this can result in eye strain, back problems (MSD) and repetitive strain injuries (RSI). Our assessment takes into consideration the environment such as workspace and lighting, screen resolution and position in relationship to eye-level, seating and desk ergonomics, and job function.

We can carry out this assessment for you and/or train staff to be able to carry it out themselves.
Manual Handling Risk Assessment
The term manual handling is define as the movements of a load by human effect a low, as opposed to mechanical handling by fork lift, crane etc. Back injuries due to the lifting of loads are very common and millions of working days are lost every year as a result of such injuries.
The Manual Handling Operating Regulation requires risk assessment and training to be carried for any activity that involves lifting or moving of any load by hand.

We can carry out this assessment for you and train staff as necessary.
Safety Audits
Safety Audit – An examination of what health & safety is already in place, what needs updating and what needs addressing. Resources can then be targeted on those issues that are the highest priority. This is a sensible place to start where health & safety has been undertaken in an ad hoc manner or has not been reviewed for a number of years.
Safe Systems of Work
Safe systems of work are required under the Health and Safety at work etc Act 1974 section 2. This will describe the safe method of performing the job activity and should be communicated to the employees involved. There should be records to say that the employee has been instructed in the safe system of work and they understand it and will abide by it. Small companies wishing to contract with other companies, may be asked to produce a risk assessment and safe systems of work for work they will be doing whilst on the site of the client company. We can help put this type of information together to show the high level of professionalism your company has.
Policies & Procedures
It is a legal requirement under the Health & Safety at Work Act for companies of 5 employees or more to have documented policies on all Health & Safety issues and procedures for dealing with them. These policies must reside in the relevant work place and be available for reference or instructional purposes to all employees. This is a natural follow on to Safe Systems of Work, where having identified the best practice it is documented in a policy and procedure format.

We can produce all necessary policy documents in a simple understandable writing style devoid of jargon and ambiguity.
Electrical Testing
We work with a team of associates qualified to conduct risk assessments and testing of electrical installations, portable equipment (PAT) and fixed machinery.

A vital area of conformity, which if ignored leave companies greatly exposed to financial loss in the event of electrical accidents or claims against insurance policies.
Training
Providing your employees with training in health & safety awareness and also specific things like first aid, is a legal requirement under health & safety regulations. Posters and leaflets can be made available on specific topics that might affect staff, but the most appropriate level of competence must also be established and training provided accordingly.

We offer a range of courses on work-related issues. Here are just few. Please contact us for more information.
First Aid
Depending on the number of employees and the work activities, first aiders are a requirement for most companies. All course providers are accredited and can offer both external and in house provision. Full First Aid at work, appointed person, and specialised courses are available no matter how many people you have.
Fire Safety
Under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, employees must receive training in fire safety to ensure they are aware of how to prevent fires starting and raising the alarm. Fire Marshal training is required to ensure the safe evacuation of the building in cases of emergency.
Health & Safety Awareness
Employees have a responsibility under health & safety legislation to comply with all policies and procedures laid down by their employer to prevent accidents or injury to themselves and others. These responsibilities should be highlighted and the process for reporting near miss incidents and any accidents should be made clear.
Stress Management
The psychological well being of staff is as important as the physical. All managers must be aware of the factors that may contribute to work-related stress and how to deal with staff who might report feeling under stress. Employees need to recognise the signs of stress in themselves and colleagues to allow for action to be taken before it leads to ill health and absence.
Risk Assessor
Risk Assessment is a vital part of any health & safety system and having staff trained to act as assessors can allow for assessments to be made in a timely and up to date manner.

The key principles of hazard identification, documentation of current controls and further actions are necessary components of this training.
Display Screen Assessment
People who use computers as part of their job, require an assessment to ensure they are using the display screen correctly and have their work stations set up to cause the least strain on them. This training will enable a member of staff to be come competent in carrying out this assessment and so allow them to risk assess all work stations and new staff.
Fork Lift Truck
There are many serious accidents in the work place caused by FLT operations. Training is required under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regs. and this training should be repeated periodically in a refresher course.

We offer in house training courses for any level of operator in various types of FLTs. Email us for a quote.
